TThe company Suna-Precision GmbH is a small enterprise founded in 2014 by a group of scientists and engineers working at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron) in the field of nano-positioning, automation, and synchrotron radiation instrumentation.
We aim to achieve the highest mechanical precision possible by using state-of-the-art technology: our translation and rotation stages are mainly based on flexural hinge designs and air-bearing technology.
Flexural hinge mechanics are based on the elastic deformation of materials of high mechanical yield strength. They provide short to medium travel ranges with extremely small parasitic movements and are ideally suited for in-vacuum applications. Piezo motors in closed loop operation are the ideal actuators for these stages. They combine in a perfect way both, a long travel range at different speeds, and an extremely high positioning accuracy down to the sub-nanometer range.
For larger travel ranges and rotation angles, we use air bearing devices. Air bearing technology uses a continuous airflow in a few micrometer gap between the static and moving part, and hence provides movements with very low friction and extremely high precision and reproducibility. Our air bearing devices are built in close collaboration with a German air bearing manufacturer. For these stages we use high-performance, brushless servo motors in closed loop operation.
According to your needs, we offer the implementation of different sensor systems, like high resolution optical encoders or interferometric sensors.
For new designs, we systematically use FEM calculations for identification of parameter sets for optimal mechanical performance and thermal stability.
